Loudoun Times-Mirror: Play ball for all: Trio of girls breaking baseball boundaries

As a female baseball player, Tana Buffalo is accustomed to hearing chatter from the opposing dugout when she is pitching.

"It's either 'oh my gosh, there's a girl on the mound' or 'there's a girl on the mound, we are going to smoke her' ... If I do really good, I kind of shut them up and they start being quiet," Buffalo said. "That's kind of fun for me, I gain their respect."

Chloe Biro, Sydney Metts and Buffalo are youth baseball players from Ashburn who describe the sport as fun, competitive and challenging. Biro and Buffalo, both 10-year-olds, and Metts, 9, each play travel baseball in the fall for the Potomac Riverdogs.
